Skin Tag, Milia Removal

Skin Tag Removal in London, Ontario

Do you have skin imperfections such as  skin tags and milia that frustrate you every time you look in the mirror? At London Laser, we provide services that remove blemishes easily and permanently.

By applying a small electric current we safely remove those unsightly skin tags, milia, cherry angiomas and more. During treatment a very small needle touches the skin surface. We’ve seen several vascular blemishes disappear immediately, and conditions can be successfully treated in only a few treatments with very little skin reaction.

What can be treated?

Electrocoagulation can be used to successfully treat the following skin conditions; see below for a more in-depth description:

  • Cherry angioma removal
  • Skin tag removal
  • Milia or whitehead removal
  • Sebaceous hyperplasia removal
  • Cholesterol deposit removal
  • Seborrheic keratosis removal
  • Dermatosis papulosa nigra removal

What does it feel like?

Most people find the treatment very tolerable, there may be a mild tingling or pinching sensation on the treatment area.  During the treatment we apply a topical anesthetic, at no additional cost, and most of the discomfort is diminished.

What are the side effects ?

With proper after care there are no long-term side effects.  Short term there may be redness, tenderness, and occasionally mild swelling.

How long is the healing time?

Most blemishes are fully removed or treated at the time of the first appointment with little to no evidence there was anything there prior to the treatment.  If there is a post treatment wound it is usually very small and takes 2 to 5 days depending on the individual.

What are the aftercare instructions ?

The most important aftercare instructions are:

  • keep the treatment area clean and dry,
  • refrain from sun exposure, and
  • apply aftercare ointment.

How long is it necessary to wait between treatments?

Most conditions will be treated at a single treatment, for larger blemishes it may be necessary to treat them over multiple appointments that should be 8 weeks apart.

What Skin Conditions Do We Treat?

Cherry angioma

Cherry angiomas are an accumulation or cluster of blood vessels in the skin and show up as red bumps and can be found on any part of the body.  They do not cause any symptoms but may bleed due to friction. Cherry angiomas are benign, they can be removed for cosmetic reasons or if they become irritated.

Skin Tags

Skin tags are small growths of skin, usually skin color or slightly darker and range in size and appearance; skin tags can be long or flat.  Skin tags can be found anywhere on the body, most commonly on the eyelids, armpits, groin, upper chest, and neck.

It is not clear exactly what causes skin tags, they may be caused by skin chafing against other skin or clothing.  They are more common in skin creases or folds, the incidence of skin tags increases with age.

Skin tags are benign and can be removed for cosmetic reasons or if they become irritated.

Milia or Whiteheads

Milia occur when keratin becomes trapped beneath the surface of the skin.  Keratin is a strong protein that’s typically found in skin tissues, hair, and nail cells.  Milia are commonly found on the face, often on and around the eyes.

Milia develop when the skin loses its natural ability to exfoliate as a result of aging.  They are benign and can be removed for cosmetic reasons or if they become irritated.

Sebaceous Hyperplasia

Sebaceous hyperplasia causes skin coloured, white or yellow-tinged shiny bumps on the skin, this and occurs when the sebaceous glands become enlarged with trapped sebum.  The size ranges from 1 or 2 millimeters to several millimeters.  Each follicle has a sebaceous gland that produces sebum, a lipid which keeps the skin supple and hydrated.

Sebaceous hyperplasia is benign and can be removed for cosmetic reasons or if they become irritated.

 Cholesterol Deposits

Cholesterol deposits or xanthomas are fatty deposits that build up under the skin that appear as soft, flat, yellowish lumps. Cholesterol deposits tend to appear on the upper and lower eyelids, near the inner corner of the eye, and often develop symmetrically around both eyes, but they can develop anywhere on the body.  A cholesterol deposit on an eyelid is called xanthelasma palpebra.

Cholesterol deposits are benign, they can be removed for cosmetic reasons or if they become irritated.

Seborrheic Keratosis

Seborrheic keratosis appears in varying degrees of pigmentation, starting out as a light brown color becoming darker and more waxy, scaly, wart-like and slightly elevated in appearance.  These growths can appear on the face, chest, shoulders or back.

Seborrheic keratosis is not believed to be related to sun exposure, they are not contagious and do not spread.  They may show up as a individually, but more often develop in clusters.

Seborrheic keratoses are normally painless and can be removed for cosmetic reasons or if they become irritated.
